Realization
The beret is started with the frontal band. Cast on 3 stitches on 4 mm circular needles.

row 1: knit 1, 1 yarn over (pass the thread in front of the work), knit 1, 1 yarn over, knit 1 = 5 stitches.
row 2: Right side up.
row 3: knit 1, 1 yarn over (pass the thread in front of the work), knit 3, 1 yarn over, knit 1 = 7 stitches.
rg 4: All right side up.
row 5: knit 1, 1 yarn over (pass the thread in front of the work), knit 5, 1 yarn over, knit 1 = 9 stitches.
row 6: Right side up.
row 7: knit 1, 1 yarn over, 2 knit stitches together, knit 1, 1 yarn over, 2 knit stitches together, knit 1, 1 yarn over, 2 stitches together = 9 stitches together.
row 8: right side up.
Row 9: Knit 1, Knit 1, Knit 2 together, Knit 3, Knit 1, Knit 2 together, Knit 1 = 9 stitches.
rg 10: All right side up.

Repeat rows 9 and 10 until the total length is 46 cm, ending with row 10. (Feel free to try the band around your head by stretching it a little. You can thus adapt the length to the circumference of your head.)
Sew 1 button at the buttonhole, crossing the two ends for about 1.5 cm.

Go up 88 stitches by knitting them all along the band (once buttoned).
On the next row, increase as follows: * knit 1, increase 1 in the next stitch by knitting it once in the knit strand then once in the back strand * repeat from * to * until the end of the row = 132 stitches .

Knit in stitches on these 132 stitches up to 17 cm in height measured from the stitches brought up along the strip.

Then start the decreases for the top of the head as follows:
row 1: * 10 knit stitches, a decrease oriented left (Slip the first stitch as if to knit it right side up, slip the second stitch as if to knit it purlwise then replace the left needle in front of the two slipped stitches and knit them together) *, repeat from *-* until finished round.

row 2: Right side up.
Row 3: * Knit 9, decrease to the left * Repeat until the end of the round.
rg 4: All right side up.

Repeat these decreases decreasing by one stitch each time in the repetition until you have 12 stitches then knit all the stitches 2 by 2 = 6 stitches. Cut the yarn and pass it through the remaining 6 stitches.

Happy Holidays! ˜
