Technical explanations

Intercalary increase

With the left needle, lift the thread between the two stitches from front to back. Then, knit this stitch in the back loop.

Kitchener Stitch

Preparatory step : Pass the yarn through the first stitch of the knit closest to you, as if to purl it and leave the stitch on the needle. Then pass the yarn through the first stitch of the knitting at the back, as if knitting it, and leave the stitch on the needle.

Step 1 on the front needle : Pass the yarn through the first stitch of the knit closest to you as if to knit it and drop the stitch, then pass the yarn through the next stitch as if to knit it. wrong side and leave it on the needle.

Step 2 on the back needle : Pass the yarn through the first stitch of the knit from the back as if to purl it and drop it, then pass the yarn through the next stitch as if to knit it as a knit .

Repeat steps 1 and 2 until the last stitch, then fasten the thread.

Achievements

Step 1 - The wrist

Cast on 36 (40) stitches on 3 mm needles and join in the round, taking care not to twist the stitches. Knit in 1/1 rib for 5 cm then continue with size 3.5 needles and knit 3 rows of stockinette st.

Step 2 – The gusset

Beg increases for thumb gusset as follows:

Row 1: Knit 18 (20) stitches, place a marker ring, make an intercalary increase, place a marker ring and finish the round. Knit one row.

Row 3: Knit to the first marker ring, slip the ring, make an intercalary increase, knit to the second marker, make an intercalary increase, slip the second ring and finish the round. (The gusset increases are made inside the 2 marker rings.)

Rows 4 and 5: Right side up.

Repeat from row 3 to row 5 until you obtain 15 stitches between the 2 marker rings. Knit a row after the last increase. Then, on the next row, remove the first marker ring, slip the 15 stitches of the gusset on a piece of yarn to put them on hold, turn the knit over and cast on 2 stitches, turn the knit over, remove the second marker and complete the round .

Step 3 – The top of the hand

Knit in stockinette stitch over the 38 (42) stitches up to 3 cm after the end of the gusset. Continue in 1/1 rib for 5 rows then cast off loosely following your rib stitch.

Step 4 – The Flap

Starting 2 rows above the gusset opening, knit them up 20 (22) stitches from the right end of the top of the hand. Cast on 16 (18) stitches in a row. Distribute these 36 (40) stitches on the set of double pointed needles, join in the round taking care not to twist the stitches.

Knit 1 row, purl 1, knit 1 row and purl 1 row for the garter stitch border. Continue in stockinette st for 7 cm in height (for a perfectly fitted mitten, continue until you cover your little finger.) Begin the decreases at the top of the hand as follows:

Row 1: * 2Tog, 13 (15) meD, DOG, 1 meD * repeat 2 times in total = 32 (36) stitches.

Row 2, 3 and 4: All right side up.

Row 5: * Tog 2, 11 (13) sc, DOG, 1 sc * repeat 2 times in total = 28 (32) stitches.

Row 6, 7 and 8: All right side up.

Row 9: * Tog 2, 9 (11) sc, DOG, 1 sc * repeat 2 times in total = 24 (28) stitches.

Row 10, 11 and 12: All right side up.

Row 13: * Tog 2, 7 (9) sc, DOG, 1 sc * repeat 2 times in total = 20 (24) stitches.

Row 14: All right side up.

Place the first 10 (12) stitches (top of the hand) on one needle, and the next 10 (12) stitches (under the hand) on a second needle. Then, join them in Kitchener Stitch (see technique page 1.)

Step 5 – Thumb

Return the 15 stitches from the thumb on the double-pointed needle set. Join the thread and start the round at the junction of the thumb and the hand. Knit a first row by going up 4 stitches in the space between your hand and thumb at the end of the row = 19 stitches. Knit a second row as follows: 14 stitches, DOG, 2Tog, DOG = 16 stitches.

Knit one row, one row purl, one row knit, one row purl then continue all in the right place until 5.5 cm from the base of the thumb (for a mitten perfectly fitted to your hand, start the decreases when the knitting exceeds half of the nail.)

Then begin the decreases at the top of the thumb as follows:

Row 1: * 3 stitches, 2 sets * twice, and finish with 4 stitches, 2 sets = 13 stitches. Knit one row.

Row 3: * 2 meD, 2 Tog * twice, and finish with 3 meD, 2 Tog = 10 stitches.

Row 5: * 1 med, 2 tog * twice, and finish with 2 med, 2 tog = 7 stitches.

Pass the thread through the remaining 7 stitches and tuck the thread inside, pulling well to round the top of the thumb.

Step 6 – Finishes

Tuck in all the wires. Place a button where the top of the flap falls. Crochet or embroider a buttonhole at the top of the flap so you can secure it in the “Fingerless Mitten” position.

Now knit the second!
