Riverside Studio a small independent company based in rural Quebec, Canada that produces high quality hand-dyed yarns. Their Canadian spun yarns are dyed in a rich palette of unique and sophisticated colours.
The first experiments in colour began in a Kathryn Drysdale founder and owner studio in Wakefield, Quebec overlooking the Gatineau river. Wool and dye began to take over the space where for many years she had been painting and drawing. A knitting obsession and a desire to work with superior materials started the whole journey. Before long she was stepping over giant boxes of yarn and up to her elbows in dye. Eventually she out grew that space and was lucky enough to be a founding member of an artist cooperative in an old elementary school not far from Wakefield. Their dye studio is located at Place des Artistes de Farrellton, a repurposed school in Farrellton, Quebec, Canada.
Nature, architecture, art and fashion are all great sources of inspiration for their yarn. They often develop colours based on what they have, working to bridge colour gaps and are always experimenting with different dye techniques. Sometimes dyeing can be a collaborative process. Their customers and stockists have great colour ideas which they work to make a reality. It is really important for them that their yarn colours knit up to look beautiful in a garment. They dye yarn in very small batches ensuring each skein is as beautiful as they imagined.
