Knit one row, then on the next row knit to the first marker, insert the 11 (11, 13, 15) sts. on an auxiliary thread, cast on 2 stitches and finish the row = 30 (34, 38, 42) stitches.
Continue in stockinette st until 3.75 (4, 4.5, 5)” from end of gusset.
Step 3: the tip of the mitten
Setup Rank:
Knit 15 (17, 19, 21) sts., PM, finish row.
Decrease row : [1 sc, GGT, knit to 3 stitches from marker, 2 tog, 1 sc] repeat one more time.
Repeat this row of decreases: 5 (6, 7, 8) times. There are 10m left. Place the top 5 stitches facing the bottom 5 stitches and sew them in kitchener stitch.
Step 4: Thumb
Take the 11 (11, 13, 15) stitches on hold and distribute them on the 3 double pointed needles. Knit a row and go up at the end of the row on the hand 4 stitches = 15 (15, 17, 19) sts.
Next row: Knit 10 (10, 12, 14) sts, 2 Tog, 1 sc, GGT = 13 (13, 15, 17) sts.
Continue in stockinette stitch over these stitches until 1.75 ( 2, 2.25, 2.5)” from the thumb stitches.
Then begin the decreases for the tip of the thumb as follows:
Knit all sts 2 by 2 ending with a st = 7 (7, 8, 9) sts.
